Okorocha Blast Tinubu: I Am S/East Leader Of APC, You Can't Appoint Ministers For Me

Bola Tinubu, the former Lagos state governor and the national leader of the ruling APC, has reportedly clashed with Rochas Okorocha over one of the ministerial appointments of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Tinubu is set to name Chief Festus Odumegwu, the former chairman of Nigerian Breweries Plc, as a ministerial candidate in Buhari’s cabinet.

The motion, is unsettling Okorocha, who prides himself as the leader of the APC in the South-east, beholding his alleged leadership of the party in the South-east as being eroded.

THISDAY source said: “Already, the former Lagos state governor, who is popularly called the National Leader of the APC has taken Odumegwu to the president.”

Odumegwu was the Chairman of National Population Commission (NPC) in the immediate past government of ex-president Goodluck Jonathan.

However, Jonathan sacked him after series of complaints against him as the chairman of that all sensitive federal government agency.

Okorocha is the only governor from the South-east geopolitical zone who is a member of the APC and supported the government of President Buhari in no small way during the last polls.

The governor had during a felicitous visit to Buhari as president-elect self-praised that if not for the strategy that the leadership of the APC in the South-east zone applied during the election, which saw the voting power of the region diminish by over 50%, it would have been very hard for the paty to win the presidential poll.

It was learnt that Okorocha had been of the strong opinion that he should be allowed by the APC to dictate the pace in the South-east because his splinter APGA was part of the merger that defined the APC.

Meanwhile, the current move by Tinubu, some analysts consider, is part of the larger plot to assert his leadership and control of the party in all the zone.

President Buhari, who is marked 100 days in the office this weekend, is yet to appoint ministers.

According to his last promises, Nigerians should await appointees this month.
