Chelsea forward Pedro has defended Jose Mourinho, saying that his new manager ‘ is
not what he seems’ .
Mourinho had numerous run - ins with Pedro ’s former club Barcelona while he was
manager of their La Liga arch - rivals Real Madrid , something that did not stop the Spain
international joining the Portuguese at Stamford Bridge in a £21m deal this summer.
Although the 28- year- old ’ s decision to link up with Mourinho was perhaps a surprise
because of the bad blood between the manager and Barca, Pedro insisted that his
new boss is misunderstood by many .
“The past is there and there are people who will not forgive what happened ,” he told
The Mirror . “The truth is that one has an image of him which, when you know him ,
changes a lot . It is not what it seems.
“I like the way that Mourinho works . I feel comfortable and he made me feel important .
He has a positive and winning mentality . I am delighted because I like nothing better
than winning . ”
“[He gave me] a good talk , he explained the situation of his team, what he expected of
me and I heard what I needed to hear , that with me the team would grow . It gave me
confidence. ”
Pedro has played twice for Chelsea since arriving in England, scoring one and setting
up another on his debut against West Bromwich Albion last month, and he featured for
Spain in the 2- 0 Euro 2016 qualifying win over Slovakia on Saturday.
