The alleged arrest of former Akwa Ibom Governor, Godswill Akpabio by the Economic
and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday, October 16, has prompted the
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,to schedule an emergency meeting.
According to Olisa Metuh, PDP National Publicity Secretary, top on the agenda will be
the Senate Minority Leader’s arrest by the EFCC.
“On the issue of the alleged arrest of Senator Akpabio, the PDP has called an
emergency meeting and will look at the issues holistically.
“We have an emergency meeting with the leadership tonight where we will discuss
this matter and then we will make our position known.”
Akpabio was allegedly arrested yesterday for defrauding the state of N101.8b,
mismanagement of state funds and piling up debts for the State.
As at 11 am this morning Akpabio was also reported to have returned for questioning
after his release yesterday by 11pm.
He had earlier denied reports of his arrest stating that he was only invited by the EFCC
and as an exemplary Citizen, he honored the invitation.
