…AKS AIRPORT STAFF SAY AIRCRAFT WAS LAST SEEN WITH AKPABIO
There is growing worry among Akwa Ibom people concerning the whereabout of the private jet, a Gulfstream G450 (N224BH), purchased through controversial circumstances for Akwa Ibom State Government by the former governor, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio.
Akpabio used the name of a foreign bank in Ohio, United States of America to bid for and purchased the aircraft but registered it in Nigeria in the name of Akwa Ibom State government. Curiously, the $45Million earmarked by the former governor for purchased of the plane was three times higher than the same model bought by private individuals in Nigeria.
The aircraft was reportedly last seen carrying Senator Godswill Akpabio despite stories of possible sell by his stooge, Udom Emmanuel.
The Guide gathered that the newly-elected Akwa Ibom State governor, Udom Emmanuel was reportedly making plans to sell the state’s private jet because according to our source, “he is not finding private jet ownership a worthwhile investment.” That, “in view of Governor Emmanuel’s unfavorable disposition to the private jet acquired by his predecessor, Godswill Akpabio to ease his movement outside the state, he is contemplating disposing of the aircraft”. Since May 29, 2015, when Udom Emmanuel was sworn in as governor, he is said to prefer travelling by chartered flights.
Furthermore, it was gathered that before the aircraft went missing, the governor was shopping for buyers of the jet to relieve him of the burden of fuelling and maintaining it. Our government house source disclosed that the cost of fuelling and maintaining the jet were as much as N10million per trip.
Unfortunately, the same government which leaked to the public its decision to sell the aircraft has refused to disclose whether it did make sale, how much it was sold for and what the money was used for.
