Casemiro signs new six-year deal at Madrid

Real Madrid have announced the contract extension of Casemiro, who will remain at the Bernabeu until June 2021.

The State Security Service, SSS, has stated that it arrested over a dozen Boko Haram leaders in the past two months including nine in Lagos and one in Enugu State.
The SSS, also known as DSS, said this in a statement by its spokesperson, Tony Opuiyo, on Sunday.
Mr. Opuiyo said “the sudden influx of Boko Haram members into Lagos State points to the
determination of the sect to extend its nefarious terrorist activities to the State and in fact, other parts of the country.”

The presidency at the weekend advised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to stop
playing down President Buhari’s achievements in his first 100 days in office.
It said PDP should rather bury its head in shame for subjecting Nigeria to the worst
economic plunder through corruption in the recent history.
Reacting to the PDP statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa
Metuh, that the economy is going down under the APC administration, the Senior
Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, said
that the economy of Nigeria was gasping for breath under the egregiously corrupt
PDP administration.

The ongoing probe of the immediate past administration by President Muhammadu Buhari is to beam its searchlight on the alleged purchase of three mobile stages, costing $6.9m, by former President Goodluck Jonathan and two of his officials, a Presidency source has said.

Buhari Grants Licenses For Construction of 65 Private Refineries in Nigeria

Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari has approved licenses to 65 Nigerian private firms to construct modular refineries in the country.The companies were selected from about 285 applications that were screened for the purpose.
Modular refineries are mini-refineries with capacities ranging from 1,000 to 10,000 barrels per day, bpd, which can be assembled and separated easily for enhanced performance and efficiency.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has blamed himself for the team's 2-1 defeat by Crystal Palace at the Stamford Bridge.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has described as alarming, the “damage” so far done on the nation’s economy by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress, APC, since it took office at the center, three months ago.

Ita Solomon Enang (born 23 August 1962) is the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to
President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters (Senate). He is a Nigerian
politician who represented the Itu and Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom
State in the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2011. He was elected Senator for
the Uyo (North East) Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom in the 2011 Federal elections.
Senator Ita Enang was appointed as the SSA to President Muhammadu Buhari on
National Assembly Matters (Senate) on 27 August 2015.

The Ohaneze Youth Council, OYC, has expressed deep anger over President
Muhammadu Buhari’s latest appointment for the positions of the Secretary to the
Government of the Federation, SGF, as well as the Chief of Staff to the President.
The group said recent developments had indications that Buhari was pursuing
ethnic agenda and that he was not ready to accommodate Ndigbo in his
government.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, on Friday assured Nigerians that President Muhammadu Buhari’s political appointments will balance out very soon.
Adesina spoke while featuring on a radio programme, Political Platform, on RayPower 100.5FM, monitored by our correspondent.
He was reacting to criticisms that have trailed the President’s appointments, which are
believed to favour the Northern part of the country.

The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, Friday approved the redeployment of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2, Lagos, Mbu Joseph Mbu and 18 others to various states across the federation.
Mbu has been redeployed to Police Staff College, Jos, as Commandant. Arase also redeployed 49 Commissioners of Police to various states.

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State on Thursday said he had bought his private jets before his election as the state governor in 2011.
Okorocha was reacting to the report that he bought two private jets since he was elected into office.
Civil servants in the state had earlier called on the governor to sell his private jets and use the proceeds to pay their salary arrears.

THERE was an outrage in the ruling All Progressives Congress on Thursday over the announcement of new appointments by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Leaders of the APC, who spoke to The PUNCH, complained that the appointments tilted
in favour of the North and said the party must move fast to cope with the backlash of
expected rumblings in the polity.
“The President does not consult before making most of these appointments and I can
tell you that Nigerians are going to term the party and the President as a northern party
and the President of Northern Nigeria,” a leader of the party said to one of our
correspondents late on Tuesday.

A Lagos-based human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), on Wednesday denied
claims that he hailed former President Goodluck Jonathan’s approach to war against
corruption.
Falana, in a statement, said “some misguided fellows” attributed to him in his recent
interview with Channels Television, a suggestion that the Jonathan administration fought
corruption in a more civilised way.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has launched a probe into the administration of former Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi.

Femi Gbajabiamila, majority leader of the federal house of representatives, has revealed
that he is not on speaking terms with Aminu Tambuwal, governor of Sokoto state and
former speaker of the lower chamber, who backed Yakubu Dogara to emerge speaker
of the green chambers.

The Delta State governorship election petition tribunal, sitting in Asaba, has admitted four key
documents, including card readers’ accreditation report, tendered by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The accreditation report submitted by INEC showed that the number of accredited voters for the April 11 governorship election in Delta state was lower than the results announced by electoral officials after the polls.

APC, PDP senators team up against Saraki

A group of senators of the All Progressives Congress, under the aegis of Unity Forum, have risen against the decision of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to investigate the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Lamorde, over alleged diversion of N1 trillion recovered by the commission.
The APC senators echoed the position of the Peoples Democratic Party caucus in the Senate, which dissociated its members from the probe on Monday, calling on the committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to shelve the investigation.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, on Wednesday announced new
measures aimed at cost reduction and strengthening of operational efficiency across its
value chain.
The NNPC in a release by its spokesperson, Ohi Alegbe, stated that after proper
evaluation and in line with the terms of contract for the delivery of crude oil to the
nation’s refineries in Warri, Port Harcourt and Kaduna, the Corporation has cancelled the
current contract due to exorbitant cost and inappropriate process of engagement.

A leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, has distanced himself from the recent ordeal of the former governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola.
In a statement Wednesday, Mr. Tinubu said he is not behind the latest “rancid attacks” on Mr. Fashola.
“An attack against the performance of Governor Fashola is indirectly an attack against me and the edifice of achievement we have constructed in leading Lagos state out of a protracted time of stagnation and into an era of sustained progress and development,” said Mr. Tinubu.

The Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal on Wednesday affirmed the verdict of the
Lagos State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal which upheld the declaration of
Akinwunmi Ambode as the winner of the April 11, 2015 governorship election in Lagos
State.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State says former Minister of the Niger Delta, Mr
Godsday Orubebe is afraid of President Muhammadu Buhari’s planned probe of several
billions of naira squandered on the East-West road and on the Amnesty Programme under his watch as Minister of the Niger Delta Affairs, adding that this is the basis for his latest outburst in the media.
The Governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Peter Okhiria said the incompetence of people like Orubebe contributed to the dismal failure of the administration of former president Goodluck Jonathan.

Men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Tuesday night stormed the headquarters of Arik Air in Ikeja Lagos following the arrest in London of a crew member of the airline for allegedly being in possession of cocaine.
The Arik crew member, identified by the anti-narcotics agency as Chika Egwu Udensi, was arrested on Monday night by operatives of the United Kingdom Border Force with 20 kilogrammes of cocaine in London.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed why Nigeria issued an entry visa to Ahmad Al-Assir, the Lebanese Sunni Muslim extremist, who was arrested last week.
An official told Premium Times that Al-Assir got entry permission because Nigeria’s embassies do not take applicants’ biometric data.

Following President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive that the over 130,000 police personnel attached to unauthorised persons and VIPs in the country be withdrawn and deployed to confront the security challenges, Force Headquarters, in conjunction with the Police Service Commission, PSC, is set to commence the implementation.

The pan-northern socio-political group, Arewa Consultative Forum, has told Igbo leaders
to warn their youths agitating for secession, saying that the issue that led to the nation’s
30-month Civil War had been settled since 1970.
The ACF also cautioned the Federal Government against negotiating with the Boko
Haram sect.

Sixteen senators and members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State on
Tuesday petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari over alleged interferences by security
agencies in the hearing of cases before the state election petition tribunal.
The lawmakers singled out the “State Security Services” and the “Nigerian Army” as
security agencies the President should call to order to forestall a possible “injustice” in
the prosecution of the cases.
