The All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate Sani Aliyu was yesterday declared winner
of the Katsina Central House of Representative bye-election held at the weekend.
He polled 21,485 votes to defeat Dr Muntari Kabir Usman of the PDP and Ahmed Shehu
Sani of NCP who polled who 5,890 and 179 respectively.
Until his emergence, Aliyu was the Katsina state Administrative Secretary of the APC.
Our correspondent reports that the election witnessed low voter turn-out despite the
timely arrival of personnel and election materials.
Declaring the results, INEC Returning Officer, Professor Shehu Salihu Muhammad said,
“Sani aliyu of APC, having satisfied the requirement of the law and scored the highest
votes is hereby declared elected.
According to him, 33,428 voters were accredited out of the total 208,384 registered
voters of the constituency, adding that the election was held in all the 12 wards of the
constituency.
The bye election was informed by the death of former APC member, Sheik Umar
Abubakar who died after a protracted illness.
